Pingdom.com – Uptime Monitor and Freelance Saviour

  • Pingdom.com – Uptime Monitor and Freelance Saviour

There’s nothing worse than a client contacting you letting you know their site is down. Honestly it happens from time to time, some servers are better than others but the problem is, for the most part, unavoidable.

I recently discovered Pingdom.com, an up-time monitoring service that pings your site a various intervals and if there’s an issue it automatically sends out an email notice letting you know your site is down. Fantastic!

Pingdom offers cost-effective and reliable server, network and website monitoring. We use a global network of servers to monitor our customers’ sites 24/7, all year long. The service includes statistics for uptime and response time, and can send out alerts via SMS and email.

They’ve got various plans that cover from 5 to 30 depending on your needs and budget. It’s extremely easy to set up and get running in minutes and as an added bonus they have a free iPhone app that monitors the site remotely.

If you’ve got a client that needs to know immediately you can also let them receive emails when something goes awry.

Overall it’s a great service. It keeps you up to date on day to day issue (hopefully before the client lets you know about it) and it’s an added service you can easily sell to the client. When it comes to online e-commerce and any other online business, downtime is deadtime and you can’t make money online if your site’s down.
