There’s nothing worse than a client contacting you letting you know their site is down. Honestly it happens from time to time, some servers are better than others but the problem is, for the most part, unavoidable.
I recently discovered Pingdom.com, an up-time monitoring service that pings your site a various intervals and if there’s an issue it automatically sends out an email notice letting you know your site is down. Fantastic!

Overall it’s a great service. It keeps you up to date on day to day issue (hopefully before the client lets you know about it) and it’s an added service you can easily sell to the client. When it comes to online e-commerce and any other online business, downtime is deadtime and you can’t make money online if your site’s down.
