Bing – Do We Really Need “Another” Search Engine

A few months ago there was a stir about another search engine but to be honest the name escapes me at the moment. Now we’ve got Bing, the so called answer to our search problems. I’m not buying it, and to add an additional slap in the face the commercials are so annoying I’ve found myself either changing the channel or hitting the mute button.

Let’s face it, Google has won the search engine war. Yahoo and MSN are hanging on but is there really a need for another one? Now, as a developer and SEO strategist we have one more search engine to cater to, kind of like another browser.

I guess it does give those new sites a chance to be seen higher in the rankings but for how long? All search engines search the same sites, it’s just a matter of ranking and search algorithm at this point. You may get different results but from my research they’re not that different and I don’t see “Bing” becoming another word for “search” like Google.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for new ideas, change and competition. I guess until I can see a clear difference between the two I just don’t see the point.
